Buying a plan in the phone app
Member·5 minutes to read
What this does for you
You can subscribe to a monthly individual plan from the Botseon phone app: through the App Store on an iPhone, or through Google Play on an Android phone. The plan is on your Botseon account, not on the phone, so the desktop app and the web have it too the moment you sign in there. You never buy it twice.
Before you start
-
You're signed in to the phone app with the Botseon account the plan is for.
-
Botseon is the hosted product. A self-hosted build has no plans to buy.
-
The app sells the monthly Pro and Pro+ plans only. Ultra, annual billing, Team seats and Enterprise are bought on the web, and so is prepaid credit or extra usage.
<!-- TODO (2026-10-25): the source product sells its monthly individual plans in its phone app, Ultra included. Selling Ultra here needs a store price and App Store / Google Play product ids on the `ultra` row first (docs/operations/stripe-runbook.md). --> -
Store prices are the store's: the app shows each plan at the price the App Store or Google Play charges in your country, VAT included. In euros that is Pro €38.99 and Pro+ €129.99 a month, more than on the web (€30 and €100), because the store takes its share.
Steps
- In the phone app, open Settings → Plans (or See plans wherever the app offers it).
- Pick a plan and tap Subscribe to plan. The App Store's or Google Play's own purchase sheet opens. Confirm the purchase there.
- The app says the plan is active. Botseon checks the purchase with the store before it says so: with Apple's signature on an iPhone, and by asking Google about the purchase on Android.
- Sign in on the desktop app or the web. The same plan is there, under Settings → Usage & Billing, marked Bought in the App Store or Bought in Google Play.
If Google Play says it is waiting for the payment (some payment methods clear later), the plan starts by itself once the payment goes through. You don't need to open the app again.
You already have a plan
The paywall tells you when your account already has a plan, bought on the web, in a store, or as a team seat. It carries over to the phone, and the app sells you nothing over it: one account holds one subscription.
If a store subscription belongs to a different Botseon account, the app says so and offers Link account, which signs you in to the account that holds the plan.
A new phone, or a reinstall: Restore Purchases
Tap Restore Purchases on the paywall. The app asks the store which subscriptions your App Store or Google account holds, and Botseon checks each one with the store and puts the one that belongs to this account back. A store subscription stays bound to the Botseon account it was bought for: if it belongs to another account, the app names that account's email, partly hidden, so you can sign in to it.
Changing, cancelling or getting a refund
The store that sold the plan manages it. In the app, Manage in the App Store or Manage in Google Play opens the store's own subscription page; on the web, the plan card links there too. Botseon has no cancel or refund button of its own for a store plan.
What happens to your plan when the store acts:
| In the store | Your Botseon plan |
|---|---|
| The plan renews | Carries on into the new month |
| You turn renewal off | Stays until the end of the month you paid for, then ends |
| You turn renewal back on before then | Carries on as before |
| A payment fails and the store is still retrying (a grace period) | Stays while the store retries |
| The store gives up retrying for now (Google Play's account hold) | Paused until the payment goes through, then back |
| The store refunds the current month, or revokes the plan | Ends straight away |
| The store refunds an earlier month | No change: the current month was paid for |
Moving from a store plan to web billing
On the web, Settings → Usage & Billing shows Move to web billing for a plan bought in a store, with three steps: cancel the plan in the store, wait for it to end at the close of the month you paid for, then choose a plan on the web. The web checkout won't sell you a plan while the store one is still running, so you are never charged by both.
If something goes wrong
- "The purchase could not be confirmed." The store didn't confirm the purchase to Botseon. Try again in a moment. Nothing is on your account until the store confirms it.
- A second store subscription went through anyway. Botseon never accepts it. On Android, Google Play refunds it by itself within three days, because Botseon never confirms it to Google. On an iPhone, ask the App Store for the refund from its subscription page.
- "This Google account has no plan to restore." The Google account signed in to Google Play on this phone holds no Botseon subscription. Check which Google account bought it.
