Your first ten minutes

What this does for you

By the end of this page you have signed in, made your first bot, and watched it answer the question it opens with.

Before you start

  • A way to sign in — an email address, or a Google, Microsoft or GitHub account if your deployment has one configured. See Sign in.
  • About ten minutes with nothing else pulling at your attention.

Steps

  1. Sign in. Botseon shows a small set of provider buttons and an email form; which ones you see depends on how your deployment is configured. This step has its own page — see Sign in.
  2. Meet Botseon. A small, fixed-size window opens on top of everything else, with a black bot mark and a mocked composer that reads "Hand off any task to your team of Bots." Nothing on this screen is clickable except Next. <!-- shot: start-here-01-phone.png | Meet Botseon, on a phone --> <!-- shot: start-here-01-desktop.png | Meet Botseon, on a desktop -->
  3. See the bot's own computer. The next step explains that a bot works from its own computer, not yours — a concept screen with no input to give, only Next and Back. <!-- shot: start-here-02-phone.png | The bot's own computer, on a phone --> <!-- shot: start-here-02-desktop.png | The bot's own computer, on a desktop -->
  4. Give a bot a job. Three sample bots drift across the screen as examples of the kind of job a bot can hold — this step is illustration only and creates nothing yet. <!-- shot: start-here-03-phone.png | Give each bot a job, on a phone --> <!-- shot: start-here-03-desktop.png | Give each bot a job, on a desktop -->
  5. Say what you'll be working on. Pick one of nine tiles — Engineering, Design, Marketing, Customer Support, Product, Ops & Finance, Recruiting & People, Sales, or Productivity. Next stays disabled until you pick one; your answer decides which starter bots get suggested on the next window. <!-- shot: start-here-04-phone.png | Choosing what you work on, on a phone --> <!-- shot: start-here-04-desktop.png | Choosing what you work on, on a desktop -->
  6. Say what you use every day. A searchable grid lets you mark the tools you already use. There is no limit and no requirement — you can select nothing and still continue. <!-- shot: start-here-05-phone.png | Marking the tools you use, on a phone --> <!-- shot: start-here-05-desktop.png | Marking the tools you use, on a desktop -->
  7. Create your first bot. Name it (the default is "New Bot" — Get started stays disabled until you change it), then pick from ten colours and eight shapes. A row of starter-bot suggestions matched to the role you picked appears alongside the form; clicking one fills in the name and shape for you. <!-- shot: start-here-06-phone.png | Creating your first bot, on a phone --> <!-- shot: start-here-06-desktop.png | Creating your first bot, on a desktop -->
  8. Answer its first question, and watch it work. Your bot greets you by first name and immediately follows with a question card — a handful of lettered options plus a free-text row for typing your own answer. Once you answer, its avatar appears alone on its own line while it works, with no message bubble and no name beside it. <!-- shot: start-here-07-phone.png | The opening greeting and question, on a phone --> <!-- shot: start-here-07-desktop.png | The opening greeting and question, on a desktop -->

A worked example

If your bot's opening question offers a free-text row, you can type your own answer instead of picking one of the lettered options:

I'll paste it here, and you take it from there.

Could not save your answer. Try again. The role step's answer failed to save — usually a dropped connection.Pick the role tile again and press Next. Nothing else on the step is lost.
You have reached the limit of 50 Bots and group chats. Delete one to make room.Your account already holds fifty bots and group chats, and creating a new one would go over that.Delete a bot or a group chat you no longer need, then create your first bot again.
